Floating Installation

Floating installation is a method where the engineered wood floor is not attached to the subfloor. Instead, a recommended wood glue is applied to the groove of each plank to hold them together. A thin underlayment pad is also placed between the wood flooring and the subfloor to provide cushioning and prevent moisture transfer. This can also reduce noise and make the floor feel softer underfoot. Nowadays, almost all engineered floors can be installed using the floating method, which is considered a fast and easy installation method.

Glue Down Installation

One way to install wood flooring is by using the glue-down method, which offers a solid feel and reduces noise from footsteps and other impacts. It’s particularly beneficial for large and open spaces where noise needs to be minimized. Our glue-down system uses a durable and secure one-component moisture-cured STP hybrid adhesive that combines the flexibility of Polyurethane adhesive with the modern advantages of Silane technology. This system has a strong bond and can reduce damage to the substrate caused by shear forces. Smart Wood’s glue-down system is suitable for both residential and commercial flooring.

Nailing Down Installation

The most commonly used method by professionals is nailing or stapling if a wooden subfloor is in the house. For 1-inch solid hardwood flooring, 5 cm long nails or staples are typically used, while shorter 3.5 cm nails may be used for thinner engineered wood flooring. It’s important to nail or staple each plank or strip from both ends to ensure a secure installation.
